Peatland course in Engure Nature Park

On the way from Slītere to Gauja National Park, rich fens were visited in Engure Nature Park. It is also a Ramsar site. The fen vegetation is characterised by the presence of the protected species - Schoenus ferrugineus and Cladium mariscus.

Participants of the peatland course are getting acquainted with the fen vegetation, rare and characteristic plant species

Prof. Leslaw Wolejko (Poland) and Dr. Anatoly Puchilo (Belarus) have a discussion about fen development

Fen vegetation is being studied in the situation when gytja deposition is taking place but peat does not develop

The head of the Estonian Fund for Nature Juri-Ott Salm and Indrek Hiiesalu are looking at the gytja deposition in the site
