In the summer of 2006 the botenic expert of Latvian Fund for Nature -  Uvis Suško has found till now  here unknown vegetal specie –   slender naiad Najas tenuissima. It is up to 20 cm high water-plant which grows in clear – water lakes and in the salty see low water. Not more than 15 fields of this specie are known in the world and one more has joined to these – in Ārdavas lake Kombuļu parish Krāslavas district.

Area of slender naiad
2006 expert Uvis Suško has found new specie for Latvia and Baltic flora in the 14 meters deep lake Ārdava - slender naiad. It is the plant of naiad family, which can be met only in North Europe. From the literature sources there are no more than 15 known fields of this Species in the South of Finland and in the North West of Russia – the South Karelia. This fact increases Latvia’s international responsibility about the preservation of this specie.

Slender naiad is one of few North Europe plants – endemism that is plants which could be met in a small territory. It was wide spread in the time of postglacial. The discoveries of slender naiad seeds at lakes silts in Latvia witness about it.
